The Rappahannock-Fredericksburg Rotary Club will honor Dr. Rebecca “Becky” Bigoney with its 2019 Ethics in Business Award.  Dr. Bigoney is a senior vice president and chief medical officer for Mary Washington Healthcare and has worked tirelessly on behalf of the Fredericksburg region for more than 35 years.
The award reflects Dr. Bigoney’s dedication to serving others with integrity and understanding and her passionate advocacy for doing the right thing. Mary Washington Healthcare Board of Trustees Chair Bill Boldon, who nominated Dr. Bigoney for the honor, wrote that she follows the Rotary Four-Way Test—which emphasizes truthfulness, fairness, building goodwill, and benefitting others—every day.
“In medicine, the truth can be the most painful message to deliver to a patient and their loved ones,” Boldon wrote. “Dr. Bigoney delivers the truth in a way that others can understand with compassion and sensitivity. She has helped countless people make some of the most difficult decisions of their lives.”
Dr. Bigoney will be presented with the award June 26th at the annual installation banquet for the Rappahannock-Fredericksburg Rotary Club. She was also named a Paul Harris Fellow, which carries a $1,000 donation in her name toward eradicating polio, producing clean water, and promoting peace worldwide.
“She has dedicated her life to caring for others, no matter their social standing, economic position, or ability to pay,” Boldon wrote in his nomination letter.
