The club was officially chartered as the Rappahannock-Fredericksburg Rotary club on June 19, 1985, which makes this year our 31st anniversary. 
 
The club was presented its charter by then-Rotary International president Edward Cadmon at the Boy Scout Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia on July 23, 1985.  The 1985 Jamboree marked the 75th Anniversary of Scouting in America and the Jamboree held at Camp A.P.Hill that year was the largest on record. Many of Scouting's national leaders were in attendance, including Sanford McDonnell, the President of the Boy Scouts of American. RI President Cadmon was a special guest and a featured speaker at the Jamboree's Service Club luncheon - a luncheon the newly formed Rappahannock club had been asked to host. According to Executive Secretary Roy Strohl, the presentation of the charter by such a significant Rotary International official came as a complete surprise to all nineteen of the club's charter members:
