For the past several years, the Rappahannock Rotary Club has developed a strong relationship with two Rotary Clubs in Ecuador.  With the help of Honorary Rotarian, James Herrera, our Club has worked with the Rotary Clubs of Ibarra and Quito Valle Interoceanico to support several humanitarian projects.  A brief summary of these  projects are listed below:

Cruz Roja De Otavalo is home to 25 very poor and lonely senior citizens with no family to care for them.  This nursing home operates with no aid from the Government.  It depends on donations for their operations.

Fundacion Juvilus is a program that provides room, meals, education and medical attention to children ages 6 weeks to 14 years, who have been abandoned by their families because they are infected with HIV/AIDS.

Fundacion Valle Interoceanico is a project that aims to identify, treat and prevent physical and mental illness in children between 1 and 4 years old from low economic households.

The International Service Committee is currently working with these Rotary Clubs to establish a more formal relationship, which will result in opportunities for members of the Rappahannock Rotary Club to travel to Ecuador and become personally involved in these and other projects.  A trip to Ecuador is being considered for later this year, possibly in November 2018.
The Rappahannock Rotary Club's International Service Committee remains actively involved in several impactful projects, all aimed at improving the quality of lives around the globe.  Click the link to learn about how we are building homes for families in Honduras, providing computers for students in Belize, delivering neo-natal hospital equipment in Jamaica, and more.
In 2006, ten members of the Rappahannock (RRC) and Stafford (SRC) Rotary Clubs departed for El Progreso, Honduras.  With about $5000 in hand donated by our two clubs and the Fredericksburg (FRC) club, we rehabilitated 22 lean-to homes in Siete de Abril, and we financed the building of a two stall bathroom next to the school there.
